SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT POLICY OF
HTL-STREFA S.A.

 

Introduction


In its long-term strategy, HTL-STREFA considers the policy of sustainable economic development the key elements of which include popularisation of social progress and running business with respect to the natural environment. Running business in a responsible and sustainable manner is possible through taking account of social aspects in the business and through implementation and application of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies characterised with positive impact on the natural environment.


Employees


The key element of our operating strategy is formed by our employees, on whom we base our development. Due to the fact that human resources decide on the long-term success of the Company, as well as on its competitive advantage on the Polish and international market, employee education in the area of improvement in skills and competencies, as well as flexible adjustment to the changing economic conditions principally caused by quick technological progress, is one of the primary objectives in our educational policy. Important elements of employee education also include integration of one’s knowledge and skills with the aspects of sustainable development in the area of environment protection. Therefore, employees are made familiar with the Company’s pro-ecological policy, as well as with legal regulations in this respect. This is aimed at shaping ecological awareness of the employees so that the work they perform remains in line with the principles of sustainable development.

Concerned about the employees and to ensure appropriate conditions for personal and professional development, the Company observes employee rights, and takes greatest care to establish safe workstations. The Company observes ethical code and the policy of equal opportunities. Access to workstations and training is free of any discrimination due to gender, race, ethnic origin, language, religion, ideology, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, union membership or political views, as well as age.  The policy of equal opportunities applied by the Company is also reflected in equal employee access to promotion and the amount of remuneration, which depends on qualifications held and on the quality of the job performed.

Local community


While dynamically developing on international markets, the Company also takes active measures to support and activate local community, which directly translates on the development of the region. The main element of such measures is the care of the development of the region’s human resources through offering the opportunity of employment to the local community and through training aimed at flexible adjustment of the qualifications to the needs of the labour market. An example of measures aimed at activation of the local community can be seen in the cooperation with the Poviat Labour Office. Within the cooperation, the Company creates opportunities of employing the unemployed. This translates to the improvement of the quality of life in the region, as well as stimulation and opening the opportunities for personal and professional development, which at the same time prevents the occurrence of possible pathological phenomena. The Company also cooperates with schools and universities, offering the students and graduates an opportunity of practical experience in the form of internships and work training, as well as permanent employment.


Acting as an “economic drive” of the region, the Company impacts on its economic and social development. Running business on foreign markets, the Company helps to promote the region on the international arena. The Company’s activities in the area of the social aspect of the sustainable development policy also comprise participation in charity actions and money transfers for public utility organisations.

Suppliers and clients


Systems for management of the environment, quality, health and safety, introduced by the Company, also cover suppliers and clients.

Among the main business partners of the Company, there are also leading pharmaceutical concerns running business with consideration and respect for the principles of sustainable development policy. Acting as an equal partner, and meeting their requirements in the area of ecological orders, we are aware that our strategy of sustainable development is appropriately implemented and deployed.


The Company continuously cooperates with local suppliers, taking measures aimed at their involvement in the observance of the principles of sustainable development policy. Suppliers are verified by the Company in the aspect of meeting the rigorous quality requirements. Raw materials used in the Company’s manufacturing process must be verified in the aspect of origin and quality. This is determined by the nature of products offered by the Company. Because these are often used to save human lives, they must be reliable and completely safe to human health.

End users


The Company’s mission is realised among other issued through running research and development works aimed at creation of new product solutions that will meet the expectations of the end users. Running business in the medical sector determines us to show special care for ensuring the top quality of our products. Therefore, our products are reliable and safe to the end users, both in the operating phase, and in the post-operating phase. In order to popularise health policy among the society, the Company provides information on its website on risks related to civilisational diseases and errors made by patients and medical personnel (tab “Market”: diabetes and prevention of clinical accidents).

Pro-ecological policy

The Company’s sustainable development policy is also expressed in the pro-ecological policy based on the following assumptions:

  1. observance of the binding legal standards and the Company internal regulations in the aspect of environment protection;
  2. rational waste management based on segregation of technological waste to ensure its utilisation or recycling;
  3. protection of natural resources through limitation of electricity and raw materials consumption in the manufacturing process;
  4. the Company’s strive at continuous minimisation of its environmental impact through research and development works on new pro-ecological concepts of products and through implementation and application of state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies;
  5. popularisation of the principles of sustainable development policy and taking measures aimed at increasing the ecological awareness among the local community, employees, suppliers, clients and end users.

Each of the assumptions of the pro-ecological policy is periodically analysed in the aspect of its usefulness, validity and consistence of the policy. The periodical analyses are aimed at continuous improvement of the policy and its adjustment to the changing legal and market environment.

Application of the policy


All Company employees are in charge of implementation of the sustainable development policy. The extent of the responsibility is adequate to the position and function held. Periodical verification of the assumption and the control of policy observance is the responsibility of the Company Management. Sustainable development policy is communicated to all persons working for or on behalf of the Company and is publically available. Moreover, on request of the interested parties, the Company makes available the information regarding the measures taken in this respect.
